Unfolding

Unfolding consists of plein air paintings done in 2018 in Stuttgart, the Black Forest, the rural foothills near Porto and on the island of Belle-ille-en-mer. Plein air painting demands constant adjusting to the rapid changes of light and weather conditions. The moments are captured immediately and spontaneously transfered to the surface with marks of paint. Unfolding includes a series of leporellos. Photos of views, structures, and colors are combined with photos of paintings, creating a visual train of thought. Unfolding refers to my current perception. Recording what I see has rendered a personal map. A map needs to be unfolded to see where you are and where you want to go. This process of opening up bit by bit allows one to see the whole picture mapped out in front of them.
