station neun / Veronika Askani and Diane Gorman

„Diane Gorman develops her images from gestures and movements, using the flexibility of wire, and the perception of her own body. Coils of iron wire, as used in concrete construction for binding rebar, act as nuclei. A composition of such coils leaves painterly traces of rust on the largest picture in the exhibition. Gorman wrapped a number of these wires around her own limbs, binding herself with them, and thereafter freeing herself from them. She has further sculpted the resulting forms into spatial structures that represent fragments of the body, as well as pure gestures - thus expressing utmost liberation. Ultimately, in the form of monotypes, she transcribed the gestures back to a flat surface. The coil of wire has thus gone through various metamorphoses – un-coiled.“
